Ed "Skip" McLaughlin '78 is the founder of four businesses and is currently running
Blue Sunsets LLC, a real estate and angel investment firm. Tired of working for others and dealing with office politics, he left his high-level corporate job to start his businesses. Ed's new book, The Purpose is Profit: The Truth about Starting and Building Your Own Business (Greenleaf Book Group), offers direct insight into the startup process and how a startup really works.

Ed will talk about the challenges and motivations of becoming an entrepreneur. Discussion highlights from the book include: why distinctive competence trumps passion when starting a business; where to get funding without losing control; and why a startup should factor profit into every business decision. Ed reveals a step-by-step process to start, fund and grow the right business for you.

Ed is a 1978 graduate of Holy Cross, where he is a member of the Board of Trustees. Active in philanthropy, he lives with his wife in Connecticut and has three adult children.

Copies of Ed's new book will be available at the Harvard Club for purchase at $20. He will be available for signing after the luncheon discussion. When submitting your luncheon RSVP, please let us know if you are interested in purchasing a book.

Please RSVP by noontime on Monday, January 30 to: hclunch@hotmail.com
